Lake Naivasha

Freshwater Serenity Escape

A Tranquil Haven of Wildlife and Scenic Beauty

The second of Kenya’s magnificent freshwater lakes, Lake Naivasha, is in the breathtaking setting of the Great Rift Valley, an easy distance from Nairobi, offering relief from the savannah, with cool waters, lush vegetation, and incredible birdlife. Lined by both papyrus and acacia woodlands, hippos graze, fish eagles soar, and over 400 species of birds can be seen. Crescent Island is close by for unusual walking safaris through giraffes, zebra, and antelope within predator-free, peaceful surroundings, and the lake provides relaxation, with both boat safaris and a stunning lake sunset, Kenya’s gentler, wild side.

When is the Best time to visit?

Nature at its finest for optimal encounters with wildlife

When to visit Lake Naivasha depends on the experience you want. The dry seasons (June-October, January-February) offer clearer views of animals congregating around the watering holes. In contrast, the green seasons offer a lush, picturesque sanctuary for birding and photo opportunities. Unlike other savanna safaris, Naivasha is accessible year-round, ever-changing yet consistently tranquil.

Proximity to Nairobi means it’s the ideal short escape as well as a must-do during a long safari expedition. Offering accommodation that ranges from economical to exclusive lakeside lodges, it truly is an experience for any budget and traveller type, for a touch of both luxury and nature.

Rich Biodiversity and Wildlife

A fascinating freshwater habitat

Lake Naivasha is home to numerous plant and animal species in the Great Rift Valley. A favoured habitat for hippos, giraffes, zebras, and a fantastic diversity of birds that includes African fish eagles, the 400+ bird species that inhabit the area would make any avid birder’s head spin with delight.

Acacia woodlands and open plains mostly bound it; the lake is also close to the unique, crescent-shaped island of Crescent Island, where wildlife ambles among the lakeshore visitors on this protected and beautiful part of the region. These natural wonders of the lakeshore, animals, and natural habitat leave a beauty that is both intimate and awe-inspiring.
