Maasai Mara Reserve includes over 1,500 km² of rolling grasslands, acacia woodlands, and winding rivers. For the ultimate viewing of both wildlife and scenic beauty, the dry season is the best time to visit. The dry season exists from July through October. This period is known as the Great Migration because millions of wildebeest and zebra migrate into the Masai Mara. The dry season allows those on safari to see these migrating species, as well as their predators (lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas). In addition, the dry season has shorter grasses and fewer water sources for the animals, which give safari-goers better opportunities to see them.
Travelling to the Maasai Mara between November and June (the wet season) provides a richer environment with a more picturesque landscape. It is ideal for those seeking a more tranquil safari experience. There are also fewer visitors during the wet season, which creates an even more tranquil experience. When planning your safari, other considerations include your distance travelled, cost, and preferred accommodation level.
