Refunds:
Refunds for Madaraka Express tickets are available if you meet the eligibility criteria. For people travelling alone, you need to cancel your ticket at least 48 hours before the train leaves. If you are in a group, you must cancel at least 72 hours in advance. You need to go to the Madaraka Express Passenger Service station and bring your original identification documents and a copy of them. If you cancel your ticket, you will have to pay a fee of 30 per cent of the ticket price. The refund will be sent to the payment method you used to buy the ticket.
Rescheduling:
If you want to change your travel date, you need to request this at least 48 hours before the train leaves if you are travelling alone, and at least 72 hours before if you are travelling in a group. You can change your ticket at the station, but you have to keep the same class and type of service as your original ticket, and the passenger details must be the same. You will have to pay a fee of 10 per cent of the ticket price to change your ticket. You can only change your ticket one time. After that, you cannot get a refund.
Note:
Madaraka Express tickets that are damaged or cannot be read are not eligible for refunds or changes.
The journey typically takes 5 to 6 hours, depending on whether you choose the faster Express train or the Inter-County service with stops.
There are three daily departures, morning, afternoon, and night, giving flexibility for different travel schedules.
Express trains are quicker, with minimal or no stops, while Inter-County trains make scheduled stops at stations such as Voi, Mtito Andei, and Emali.
It’s recommended to arrive at least 60 minutes before departure to allow time for security checks, ticket verification, and a smooth boarding process.
Tickets can be booked up to 60 days in advance, which is ideal during peak travel seasons to secure your preferred timing.
