Overview
Gombe Stream National Park, located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, is renowned for its fascinating population of chimpanzees and its lush, diverse ecosystems. Covering just 52 square kilometres, Gombe is one of Tanzania’s smallest parks, yet it holds immense ecological significance.
The park gained worldwide recognition through the pioneering work of primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall, who studied the chimpanzee population here for over 50 years. Visitors to Gombe can track these fascinating primates through dense forests and steep hills, experiencing one of the last remaining sanctuaries for wild chimpanzees. The park is also home to other wildlife, including baboons, vervet monkeys, and a variety of bird species. Its remote location and tranquillity make it a prime destination for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and those interested in primate behaviour.
