Matusadona National Park
Overview
Matusadona National Park is a national park is located in northern Zimbabwe. The park was named after the Matsudona Hills which make up a portion of the national park. The land was considered a protected area in 1958 and was declared a game reserve in 1963. Finally, in 1975 the park was officially established as a national park.
Matusadona National Park measures a 1,400-sq. km in size and consists of both mountainous, rugged landscapes and stretching plains. The park is known for its remote location and true, untouched wilderness. Animals that live within the park include buffalo, hippo, lion, elephant, waterbuck, zebra, and impala. The park is known for its large populations of both elephant herds and lions. Due to these large populations of elephants, the land has been worn and some trees have been damaged. Activities that visitors can take part in when visiting Matusadona National Park include fishing, 4×4 drives, as well as boat and canoe excursions.
Best Time To Visit Matusadona National Park
Matusadona NP can be visited throughout the year. However, the drier months (April to October), are best for observing animals wandering along the lakeshore. The Wet season (November to March) is less conducive to spotting wildlife, which is why some lodges shut up shop when the rains sweep in.
