The Moremi Game Reserve is a unique destination when you travel to Botswana as it was the first game reserve in Botswana that was founded by local residents in 1963 as an act of protection after the wildlife population of the area had been affected when it was discovered by Europeans. The Moremi Game Reserve is located within the Okavango Delta, making up about 40% of the delta and is home to an array of wildlife, including close to 500 bird species.
Moremi Game Reserve allows visitors to explore the park in various ways, along with walking tours, visitors are able to take a mokoro through the delta, a canoe-like boat made from the hollowed-out trunk of a large, hard tree. The Reserve is significant as it is the only area of the Okavango Delta that is officially protected. The Big Five are easily spotted, as a population of black and white rhino have recently been revived. The scenic and varied landscape of the Moremi Game Reserve consists of marshlands, lush forested areas, and beautiful lagoons.
