Visit to the Giraffe Centre
08:00 AM – Pick-Up from Nairobi Hotel
Your driver will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel and take you to the Giraffe Centre, a wildlife conservation and learning facility in the city.

This interactive tour provides an up-close experience with the Rothschild’s giraffes. You will have the option to feed them from a raised platform while learning about their conservation efforts.
The Giraffe Centre is run by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya (A.F.E.W.), a non-profit organization founded in 1979 to save the Rothschild’s giraffe, which had lost much of its habitat to agriculture and human settlement. At the time, only 130 remained in the wild. Thanks to conservation efforts, the population has now grown to over 500 and has been reintroduced to Lake Nakuru National Park, Mwea Game Reserve, Ruma National Park, and Nasalot Game Reserve.
Visit to David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
Next, proceed to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, located within a secluded part of Nairobi National Park. This facility cares for orphaned baby elephants and other rescued animals, providing them with a safe environment and expert care from a dedicated team of conservationists.
The orphanage is open to the public for one hour daily, allowing visitors to watch the elephants being fed and playing in the mud-bath. At 11:00 AM, the young elephants are brought from the national park for their scheduled feeding and mud-bath session. Here, you may even get a chance to touch them as they interact with their keepers.
This orphanage is managed by Daphne Sheldrick, the wife of the late David Sheldrick, the founder and Warden of Tsavo East National Park and a respected naturalist.
For those who have adopted an elephant, a private afternoon viewing session is available by booking. This special session allows foster parents to have a closer interaction with the elephants in a more private setting.
A keeper will give an informative talk about each elephant’s background, rescue story, and progress. The orphanage also provides a sanctuary for orphaned rhinos, and if lucky, you might get to see a young rhino during your visit.
