Located in Tanzania’s north safari circuit, approximately 120 km south-west of Arusha, Tarangire National Park is considered one of Tanzania’s most beautiful places to go on safari and offers a truly unique African experience. Tarangire is one of six national parks in Tanzania and covers approximately 2,850 square kilometres, making it the sixth-largest park in the country.
The park was created to maintain the area’s ecological balance. Tarangire is located along the banks of the Tarangire River, which provides animals with fresh water, especially during dry periods when many migrate to surrounding areas in search of water.
Tarangire National Park is home to the largest elephant population in East Africa, and herds numbering in the hundreds roam freely throughout the park’s grasslands. As well as elephant herds, you will also find both lions and leopards, as well as many giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and all species of antelope.

Tarangire National Park offers visitors the opportunity to experience its natural surroundings.
The dry season ranges from June to October. At this time of year, wild animals certainly migrate into the park from surrounding regions. As the bush thins out, wildlife is easy to spot. The weather remains beautiful and sunny even during this time of year. There are few mosquitoes; as a result, the risk of malaria is low. Warm clothing is essential from June to August, as morning game drives can be cold. The park remains fully crowded.
The wet season ranges from November to May. The vegetation remains lovely and green. It is a prime time for bird-watching, as migratory birds are in the area. Rates might be lower, because it is the low season.
If you are a lover of wildlife, you will be absolutely delighted to learn about Tarangire’s biodiversity. The animals found here are lions, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, elephants, hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs.
The national park itself hosts more than 550 unique bird species, including the Great White Pelican, the African Grey Flycatcher, the Ostrich, the yellow-collared lovebird, and the vulturine Guineafowl. You can even find endemic bird species like Ashy Starling and Rufous-tailed Weaver.
The best time to visit Tarangire is from June to October, during the dry season. It is best for witnessing unique wildlife, including elephants. Even in the wet seasons from November to March, you can certainly view lush scenic views and get an opportunity to view numerous birds.
In Tarangire, you'll need 2 to 3 full days to allow for deeper exploration and a more relaxed game drive.

Some of the top attractions of this national park include the towering Baobab trees, seasonal Silsale Swamps, termite mounds, a stroll through the observation hills, and ranger-led walks.
