The Masai Mara National Reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife and noted for its large lion population. Animals living within the reserve include leopards, cheetah, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, crocodiles, and hippopotami, over 95 mammal species have been recorded within the reserve. The park has a large bird population of over 470 unique species, 50 of those being birds of prey including vultures, ostriches, eagles and storks. Though there are woodlands located close to the Mara River, the landscape of the Masai Mara National Reserve consists primarily of grassland and small bushes, extensive and sprawling, famed for its beautiful and vibrant open skies.
